How RestoreX360 Works at the BIOS/Pre-Boot Level

RestoreX360 is a powerful instant system restore tool, and one of its key features is that it works before Windows starts — at a very low system level, just after BIOS/UEFI but before the OS loads.

This is not inside the BIOS itself, but it hooks into the boot process through the Master Boot Record (MBR) or EFI partition, depending on your system.

  1. Installation Hooks into Boot Process
  • When you install RestoreX360:
    • It creates a custom boot loader component.
    • This component is loaded right after BIOS/UEFI but before Windows starts.

This lets RestoreX360 intercept the boot and show its own recovery menu.

  1. Pre-Windows Recovery Console
  • Upon booting, you’ll briefly see a RestoreX360 splash screen or recovery prompt, usually with a hotkey like:
  • Press ‘Home’ to enter RestoreX360 Recovery Console…
  • If you press the key:
    • You enter the RestoreX360 sub console, where you can:
      • Restore your system to a previous snapshot.
      • View or manage snapshots.
      • Fix boot problems caused by software or updates.
      • Continue to boot normally.
  1. Instant Snapshot-Based Recovery
  • RestoreX360 stores snapshots of your entire system (very lightweight, differential snapshots).
  • If the system is corrupted (malware, bad update, etc.), you can:
    • Boot to the recovery console.
    • Roll back to a previous snapshot within seconds.

This works even if:

  • Windows is unbootable,
  • You can’t enter Safe Mode,

Or the system is infected.

  1. Low-Level Disk Driver (Kernel-Mode Filter Driver)
  • RestoreX360 uses a kernel-level filter driver that tracks every change made to the disk.
  • It doesn’t back up whole files—instead, it records sector-level changes.
  • This is why it can instantly revert to previous states and why it works outside of Windows.

Benefits of Working at Boot Level

Feature

Description

OS-Independent Access

Recover even if Windows won’t start.

Very Fast Restores

Revert OS, apps, and settings in seconds.

Protection from Malware

Undo ransomware or other attacks by restoring a clean snapshot.

Important Notes

  • On UEFI systems with Secure Boot, you might need to disable Secure Boot or allow Rollback’s signed boot component.
  • RestoreX360 doesn’t play well with disk encryption tools (like BitLocker) unless configured carefully.
  • You can disable or password-protect the pre-boot menu for added security.
